Brainyquote is a super website for finding quips and quotes by topic, person or type. I often spend time searching for a quote I heard, by someone or other I can't quite remember, although generally I remember the gist of it and this is good enough with BrainyQuote as they have great search (powered by Google) and navigation features.
If you're just in the mood for a bit of enlightenment or bite-sized entertainment then the Quote of the day section is the place to go. For example, I read the following quote, which is sadly applicable in many countries these days:
"A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul."
George Bernard Shaw
As well as quotes, the site also has a section on famous birthdates (Lord of the rings author J. R. R. Tolkien, 3rd January 1892) and also has a few trivia games based on quotes for you to rack your brains with.
A great reference site for anyone writing a speech, and I recommend it for everyone who enjoys finding the profound in the sardonic.
